Chief motor racing engineer, Howden Haynes, from Towcester, now has an eye for detail both on and off the race tracks around the world.
The 31-year-old Northamptonshire man has guided car manufacturers, Audi and Bentley, to success in the Le Mans 24 Hours are now wearing the world's first sunglasses made from carbon fibre with a titanium core.
Haynes, who works with innovative designs and cutting edge technology on the race tracks around Europe sees a perfect symmetry by wearing the Danish made glasses.
"These aren't just machined from a lump of carbon fibre like others I have seen, but 4 layers of carbon fibre with a perfect surface that shows off the uniqueness of the woven fabric. Blac is designed and handmade with love and attention in Denmark by Bellinger," confirmed Howden who also has a prescription pair for everyday use.
"Not only are all top level racing cars made from carbon fibre and titan
ium nowadays but these same materials are used extensively on the military stealth and fighter aircraft. "As an engineer and designer in the motorsport industry, I am very familiar with exotic materials such as carbon fibre and titanium, indeed our current Audi racing cars are built from these same materials due to their light weight but high strength properties. To combine these two materials in the production of eyewear was a very bold but perfect combination." Every Blac frame is custom made by hand for each individual customer with hinges, screws and end-tips being specially produced for Blac frames and is the world's first adjustable carbon fibre frame. "When I heard about the Blac range of glasses, made exclusively from these materials, I just had to get a pair," added Howden. "Not only are they incredibly lightweight but also very stylish. The 'signature' weave of the carbon fibre, for example, gives the handmade fram
es a very unique look and are exquisite in every detail. "Claus Bellinger has assembled a design team comprised of top, cutting edge designers, the very best technical engineers in their field blended with innovation - which perfectly sums up the sport I'm involved with."
